Baby bumps: life from love
I was studying a picture of a beautiful pregnant woman the other day (I have a secret obsession with baby bumps, well it's not a secret anymore). She sat with her legs crossed, dressed in a black robe that only covered her arms and chest, revealing her perfectly round belly and her smooth brown legs, her young flawless face was looking down at what contained her unborn child, her hands on it as though to protect her and to reassure her that she was in safe hands.
My mind wandered off as I stared at this perfect picture...I thought just how much we are God's image in the very way we live our lives. Out of His great love for us, God gave up his only Son so that we might have life. Life was birthed from love. The love of a man and a woman has the ability to do the very same, to bring new life into the world. Isn't that amazing?!
Well we've taken away it's precious meaning by viewing it on strictly physical or biological terms, focusing on all the gross exchanges of bodily fluids and so and so forth. It's also said to be a great form of exercise (I'm being so childish referring to it as 'it', yes I'm talking about sex). But God intended something greater with sex (read Song of Songs...the book is not about wine, fruits and gardens, lol). Sex is the only expression of love that is good soil for a seed of new life to sprout from.
But sin has corrupted us, it has blurred the image we are called to reflect. Sex has become about fulfilling ones lustful pleasures, it has been detached from love and relationship, "no strings attached" type of thing. This has lead to sex being used as a violent act, birthing life, yes, but birthing it into a field of hatred and regret, and so that life is snuffed out before it even sees the light of day.
Our existence is greater that what we perceive, the mechanics of humanity hide in them the mysteries of divinity. If only we could see, we'd be in awe and give glory to the one who orchestrated something as great as man.
