My kinda girl #3
Three: she cannot be lazy. I spoke of
laziness to use one’s brain in one, now I want to talk about the result of
that, laziness to use one’s hands. Now there’s being unexposed to knowledge,
then there’s being lazy. There’s being unable, and there’s being lazy. The
woman can be in the dark about certain things, needing education and training
with a few things, she can even be unable and bad at a few other things, but
she cannot be lazy.
I do not know which verse to quote for
you because Proverbs 31 is scattered with this woman’s hands at work. I’ll take
17.
“She
sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.”
My mother is of the faith that there’s
nothing attractive about a lazy person. But thing is, lazy girls aren't lazy
with themselves. They will look good, damn good, so good you’d never think of
them as the lazy type. It’s easy to detect a person who’s lazy with their brain,
just let them open their mouths. Lazy folk, however, are not so easy to pick
up. But if you are an observant person, you can pick up a few things which can
give them away. But that’s not where my focus is, my focus is on the effect of
laziness in your relationship.
Remember Ruth? That girl who would not
sit around all day doing nothing just because she was a widow, but went out and
found something to do. My favourite thing about her is that even after Boaz had
spoken for her and shown her favour, she didn't then sit and relax under the
shelter, trusting the serendipities that would be handed to her. She kept
working steadily throughout the day. What she came home with was so much Naomi
was amazed. She was diligent and hardworking.
There are many advantages to a
not-so-lazy girl, but one I love is that she will cut you some slack, financially
and otherwise. Of the Proverbs 31 woman we are told of how she gets up while
it’s still dark and provides food for her family (15). I do not believe that
this meant she shared the role of provider or bread-winner with her husband but
that she used what he brought home. You can bring home all the groceries you
want, but if there aint no woman to turn them into meals, all they’ll ever be
is just groceries. We are told of the clothes she makes for her family (21) and
the coverings she makes for her bed (22). Lazy girls have to buy everything
cause their hands can’t make nothing, not this woman. She even made clothes to
sell (24), this brought some financial relief to her husband. This is
especially true in our times where the cost of living is high, you literally
cannot afford someone who sits on their brain and hands, you need all the help
you can get. What I love most is that she did this without compromising her
role as a wife and mother, talk about multi-tasking.
